Summit Lake State Park

The boy has taken a liking to water, especially water with sand that he can splash around in. He had such a great time at Indiana Dunes a couple of weeks ago!

So Thursday afternoon, he and I headed east to Summit Lake State Park.

Summit Lake is not a state park I’m terribly familiar with. Our family was there once about a year ago, but only for a couple of hours. That said, it does have a small beach inhabited by locals, terrific wildflowers, and great fishing judging by the boat traffic.

While the boy was most interested in splashing at the beach with his new friends, once he got tired I got the opportunity to shoot a few wildflowers.

There’s a wildflower prairie near the picnic area. It’s obviously planted and cared for, but perhaps with a few years of maturation, it’ll be naturalized into it’s surroundings and won’t look quite so out of place.
